Tomodachi Life Living The Dream: First Impression

I had serious FOMO watching my friends play Tomodachi Life on different platforms. It looked like so much fun that I had to try it myself!

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on the Nintendo Switch costs $59.99 and includes access on both Switch and Switch 2, which is great, especially since newer games are exclusive to Switch 2.

As someone who had never played a Tomodachi Life game before, I found the introduction super easy to follow. The game gives you a quick and simple explanation, so you can jump right in without feeling overwhelmed.

Creating Mii characters is one of the highlights. The customization is surprisingly detailed, with tons of options for facial features, hairstyles, and personality traits. You can have up to 70 Mii’s living on your island, building your own little world where they go about their daily lives.

Thinking about jumping in?

The game is definitely slow-paced. Your Mii’s mostly just live their lives, they sometimes will ask for food, new clothes, or invite you to play fun minigames. Otherwise, they leave you alone unless you step in and guide interactions yourself, like dragging them to meet other Mii’s.

Each Mii has a personality that develops over time, which makes their behavior feel more dynamic the longer you play. As you level them up, you unlock more options to terraform, customize, and decorate your island, giving you a stronger sense of progression.

One thing to keep in mind: the game runs on a real-world clock. If you log in after midnight, you’ll likely find most of your Mii’s asleep. You absolutely can wake them up and drag them to have interactions with other Mii’s, it’s a small detail that adds realism.

What really makes the game shine is its randomness. Your Mii’s form friendships, start relationships, and get into all sorts of unexpected and hilarious situations. The humor alone already makes it worth the price for me.

After just a few hours of playing, I can confidently say it’s fun, relaxing, and incredibly entertaining. It’s the perfect low-pressure game to unwind with on the weekend and forget about work for a while.
