Revisiting Mario Tennis While Nintendo Stays Quiet on Fever

Weekends are full of precious free time, and there’s something especially satisfying about finally giving attention to games that have been sitting untouched for far too long. Diving back into an older title—or finally starting one you’ve been meaning to play—can feel surprisingly rejuvenating.

After spending last weekend happily getting lost in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it feels like the perfect time to switch gears and revisit something slightly more competitive.

That’s why this weekend, I’ll be revisiting Mario Tennis and Mario Tennis Aces on Nintendo Switch.

I’m still on the fence about picking up Mario Tennis Fever. Nintendo has taken a… let’s call it quiet approach to marketing this one, and with so little information available, revisiting older entries feels like the best way for me to decide whether Fever is really worth the jump.

Mario Tennis Fever launches February 12, 2026, and promises the largest roster in the series’ history—but I’m not fully sold yet. I love the Mario Tennis franchise, but I’m still unsure whether Fever truly earns its place as a standout Nintendo Switch 2 title.

That’s why I wish Nintendo would share more about Mario Tennis Fever—or better yet, release a demo. Some of the new features sound cool, but at the moment, it doesn’t feel like the game is expanding the Mario Tennis formula enough to fully justify an entirely new release.

Don’t get me wrong—if you’re a longtime Mario Tennis fan, I’m sure Fever will offer plenty to enjoy. For me, though, it’s hard to justify buying a game I’ll play for a week or two before it finds its place in my growing rotation of games. What I’m really trying to figure out is whether this is one of those games I’ll play nonstop.

If I could track it down, I’d also be playing Tomodachi Life on 3DS to prepare for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Nintendo’s recent 20-minute Direct has me unashamedly excited—I’ve watched it more times than I care to admit. I just wish I could find my copy and check in on my chaotic Miis. If you’re jumping back into Tomodachi Life this weekend, I want to hear about it.

So—what game is finally coming off your gaming backlog this weekend?
