What’s on Your Gaming Backlog This Weekend?

Weekends are often the only time many of us get to work through our ever-growing gaming backlogs, and finding the right game can go a long way toward making your time off feel more enjoyable—and rejuvenating.

That’s why I’ll be revisiting an iconic title this weekend. Personally, I still haven’t had the chance to properly sit down with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch 2. While I beat the game’s main story several years ago, I haven’t returned to Hyrule since Tears of the Kingdom launched. Despite being nearly a decade old, Breath of the Wild remains one of Nintendo’s most important modern releases, and jumping back in right now feels especially timely.

After all, 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda—a milestone few franchises ever reach. Naturally, that raises the question: how will Nintendo choose to celebrate?

For Zelda’s 35th anniversary, Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Nintendo Switch. With the Switch 2 now on the market, it’s hard not to wonder if we’ll see a similar approach this year. Could another HD remake be on the way? If so, I’m particularly hopeful that a The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Switch 2 Edition becomes a reality—an announcement that would instantly excite long-time fans.

For now, though, I’ll be spending part of my weekend exploring one of the best versions of Hyrule once again—this time with fresh hardware and a renewed appreciation for just how influential Breath of the Wild still is.

Looking For Something Else To Play?

If you’re not feeling the pull of Hyrule—or just want a change of pace—there have been plenty of notable updates over the last few weeks. If you’re in the mood for something more relaxing, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is worth revisiting, especially after its recent 3.0 update added a new hotel you can help decorate.

Or maybe you’re in the mood to monkey around—Donkey Kong Country Returns HD recently received a free update that adds Dixie Kong to the game.

So, what game is finally coming off your gaming backlog this weekend?
